How you know you’ve arrived at your destination.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Moorten Botanical Garden with my sister-in-law, whose love language is also succulents, during our annual Memorial Day trip to Palm Springs, and I must say it was an enchanting experience. Nestled in the heart of the desert, this hidden gem exceeded all my expectations and left me in awe of nature’s wonders. We’ve driven past the garden at least twice a year for the past 10 or so years and we’re absolutely kicking ourselves for not doing this sooner. Here’s my review and recap of my visit.

The Vibe

From the moment I stepped through the gates of Moorten Botanical Garden, I was greeted by a sense of tranquility and serenity. The garden, spanning about an acre, is a meticulously curated haven filled with an extraordinary variety of plant species from around the world. The desert landscape, adorned with vibrant succulents, cacti, and other unique desert flora, creates a mesmerizing tapestry of colors and textures- a stark contrast to the high energy and bright colors of Downtown Palm Springs.

No caption needed. This. Is. Heaven.

Exploring the different sections of the garden felt like embarking on a botanical adventure. The Cactarium, a greenhouse filled with a dazzling array of cacti, was the pièce de résistance. I marveled at the diverse shapes and sizes of these desert-dwelling plants, some of which were rare and endemic to specific regions.

If Only Plants Could Talk

As I strolled along the winding pathways, I was captivated by the sense of harmony and balance that permeated the garden. The well-designed landscape of Moorten Botanical Garden showcased an impressive collection of agave, euphorbia, aloes, and numerous other succulent varieties. These gigantic specimens that lined the dirt path have lived through many generations and cultural shifts yet maintained their classic allure through it all. Each plant seemed to have its own story to tell, and I found myself getting lost in their intricate beauty.
